NEW ORLEANS — Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer was knocked out of Wednesday’s Allstate Sugar Bowl with a neck damage he sustained on a late strike by Ga defensive lineman Travon Walker.

Brewer lay on the floor for several minutes, surrounded by athletic trainers, after he was hit while running towards the sideline through the fourth quarter. He was eventually helped to his ft and taken to the locker area on the again of a golf cart.

“They instructed me as I came in below that they were checking his neck, you know, C-spine,” Baylor coach Matt Rhule explained. “They reported he cleared the C-backbone just now. But that is what they have been concerned about was his neck. He didn’t exhibit any head signs and symptoms, but I am confident they’re going to proceed to monitor him, nevertheless, immediately after this and in the course of the evening just to make absolutely sure.”
