French finance minister says Peugeot-Fiat deal ‘good news’ for France

PARIS (Reuters) – French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire gave his blessing to the merger amongst nationwide champion PSA and Italo-American carmaker Fiat-Chrysler, expressing the deal would be great information for France and Europe but that he would keep an eye on probable occupation cuts.

“This merger among Peugeot and Fiat can generate the world’s fourth-greatest automotive winner. It gives us essential dimension to deal with the dual troubles of autonomous cars and electrical automobiles,” he told reporters at the French finance ministry.

Le Maire did not verify the French state would continue to keep a seat at the board of the merged entity when asked by a reporter.

Asked about a possible Dutch headquarters for the group, he mentioned it was far too early to say where determination facilities would be found and that the French federal government would be vigilant on the subject matter.
