The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday requested the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s optimum civilian award, on renowned playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, who passed absent in Chennai on Friday owing to write-up-Covid-19 problems.
Andhra Pradesh main minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote a letter to Primary Minister Narendra Modi recommending the title of Balasubrahmanyam, commonly known as SPB, for the greatest civilian award of the country.
Stating that Andhra Pradesh was lucky to be the birthplace of the wonderful singer, Jagan explained the untimely demise of SPB experienced caused a lot of distress to tens of millions of followers across the country and also the global songs fraternity.
“SPB’s immense recognition and the deep impression he experienced still left on the worldwide songs industry in his fifty years of legacy can be gauged by the ongoing movement of abundant tribute from tunes aficionados all about the entire world,” Jagan explained.
The chief minister stated SPB’s achievements had long gone over and above songs and he had lifted compositions to chic degrees. He has sung above forty,000 tracks in his mother tongue Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi and experienced received countless awards such as six national film awards, twenty five Nandi awards of Andhra Pradesh and several other awards. He was a recipient of the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011) from the Govt of India.
He reminded the Centre that in the earlier, songs stalwarts like Lata Mangeshkar, Bhupen Hazarika, M S Subbulakshmi, Bismillah Khan and Bhimsen Joshi, have been conferred with the Bharat Ratna award by the Authorities of India.
“As a tribute to the legendary singer for his fantastic contribution in the discipline of new music and artwork, I ask for you to confer the Bharat Ratna upon SPB. This will be the highest recognition to his exceptional get the job done which lasted for five a long time and will remain in our memory endlessly,” Jagan explained.
